Finding a new home or apartment for your family in France can feel like an overwhelming undertaking. It is a new country, you may not speak the language and you might not be up to speed on the real estate laws and terms making everything extra challenging.
But do not despair, we have put together a helpful guide on how to find your dream apartment or house in France making the process so much easier.
As a family of five we have found amazing homes and apartments in France for both ourselves, our daughter when she was a student and for countless families as when they relocated to France to start their dream life!

Before you start looking at specific houses or apartments it is critical to first determine the best location for you and your family. Sometimes location can be more important than the house or apartment itself, so take some time to get to know the areas and communities you are focusing on.
This is a fun and even educational part of the process because you get to explore so many of the beautiful neighborhoods, communities and towns that France has to offer. And even if you don’t end up living in them you will have seen some picturesque and stunning settings.
Considering your needs and desired lifestyle are important things to consider when examining the location of your new apartment or house in France. The location of your new house or apartment can significantly affect your day to day life and overall quality of life. Therefor considering many of the factors listed below and aligning them with your families priorities is important.
Things to consider when choosing the location of your new home in France...
- Proximity to work and commute time: distance to work affects quality of life in a significant way. We have never had to drive to work or school when living in France and we highly suggest
2. Proximity to schools do you want the kids to be able to walk to school
3. Access to good schools..do you have to be in a specif neighborhood
4. Proximity to amenities and shopping do you want to be able to walk to restaurants or shopping. It is a must that you are close to a bakery so that you can walk every morning to get your fresch baguette. This a must when you move to France! The smell of the fresh baked breads every moring is life changing!
5. Proximity to public transportation, airptorts and train stations
6. Safety and security
Proximity to natural space and green areas such as parks, open spaces, beach and or lakes.
